CRITICISM

There is nothing for an alcoholic to be critical about in A.A. if he is there for the right purpose.

Members should look upon themselves as sick people and regard the A.A. program as a means of self-preservation, not something to be critical about.

In reality, A.A. becomes our school and hospital. Sponsors guide us, but we must develop our own strength by study and practice of the 12 Steps.

We fill the unique role of patient, intern, nurse and doctor, treating our illness under the care of “God as we understand Him.”

A.A. efforts would prove fruitless if the world assumed a critical attitude toward our recovery. Let us keep this in mind when we become critical.

A.A. DRY DRUNK—CRITICISM

(Home-brewed Dissension)

This mental intoxicant is fomented from selected defects of the alcoholic personality.

It inoculates our minds with Rumors—Gossip—Faultfinding—Intolerance—Jealousy—Rebellion and Resentment. It spreads unwarranted suspicion. It kills A.A. unity.

Criticism is highly intoxicating. A choice drink for those still in the “driver’s seat.” The drink with the perpetual hangover.

Nothing threatens our sobriety or the group’s safety any more than this cockeyed drink.
